Provision specifically for postgraduate Engineering students

The sessions below will all appear on student timetables:

For students who started their programmes in January 2026

We will be running two sessions for dissertation writing:

Monday 12th October, 9.35-10.25 in Harrison 215

Friday 6th November, 12.35-13.25 in Forum Seminar room 9

 

For students starting their programmes in September 2026

We will be running a series of workshops within your dissertation module. These sessions will appear on your timetable.

Week 1 - Introduction to Academic English for Engineers (how to study in HE in the UK)

Week 2 - Communication competencies

Week 4 - Technical writing taster 

Week 5 - Social drop in with colleagues and Faculty (Theme: how to get the outcomes you want)

Week 7 - Data commentary taster

Week 8 - Social drop in with colleagues and Faculty (Theme: how to maximise your chances of getting a job)

 

All students in ESE

Academic Writing for Science (AWSC) 

This course, which comprises 7 sessions, is suitable for students on all science programmes at the university and at all degree levels. Topics include: 

  • Written organisational skills 
  • Making effective use of sources 
  • Appropriate academic style 
  • Language skills for research reports and data commentary
